Anne Fuzeau Classique propose you a vast repertory of classical and contemporary music scores.

Nouveaux Horizons Collection proposed by Jean-Michel GOURY - Xasax Serie

For alto saxophone solo

For the more experienced saxophonist, these studies deal with various new, more and more commonly used techniques. The first study works on double and triple staccato in rhythmic, very contrasted writing. The player will enjoy this study both from a musical and technical point of vue. Dynamism, energy and delicacy.

The second study puts the emphasis on softness. The use of sub-tone in a work alternating between very soft and very loud, shows off the very wide dynamic range of the saxophone. Mastery of the sub-tone, although here used in a modern style, will be just as useful in more traditional texts in PPP passages. The saxophonist must aim for clarity, details, agility and purity combined with continual musical fluidity.

The next study deals with the hight treble (altssimo). No longer considered a new technique, it is neverthless still perilous and difficult to make sound. I enjoy the use of hight treble in this study, especially the interplay between hight treble and normal register. I also find the use of rhythm interesting, even funky, giving this piece a jazzy, syncopated and very saxophonistic style.

The fourth study places the accent on multiple sounds. The emphasis on frequent, various multiple sounds in rapid succession with clear, immediate emmission confer on this piece a syncopated, energetic character. Note the similarity between the rock-style sonorities of amplified guitars and those of the multiplie sounds used here. Energy flow guaranteed.

The fifth study works on very fast, sudden changes of register. To conclude this collection, a huge crescendo from very soft to very loud, from slow to fast, in a rapid, very rhythmic, dance-like movement, the saxophonist will want to achieve the total clarity of sound necessary for performance of this study.
